Why did my car battery die?

Car batteries are essentially energy storage devices that transmit a current at a particular voltage. The voltage and current the battery produces is produced by a chemical reaction inside the battery. In cold environments, expansion and contraction occurs in the discharge and recharge cycles. This can cause sediment to pile up inside the battery and short it out. On the other hand, hot environments can lead to deterioration resulting from extreme heat and vibration, or water loss. When such problems result in the battery being unable to sustain a discharge current, the car batteries die.

Standard voltage for car batteries is 12 volts, and the battery is measured fully charged at 12.6 volts. A drop in voltage, to any degree, will influence the battery’s performance.
